A newly discovered malware could be extremely threatening to electric grids
New malware is capable of taking out electricity globally
Experts have discovered a new kind of malware variant that has the capability of taking down networks that are currently running the power grids across the globe. These experts belong to a well-known cybersecurity firm who base their statement on tests run over Ukrainian power grids.
The malware is capable of allowing cyber criminals to directly take control of the electricity substations to switch off circuit breakers that could potentially cause power outages in a large area. The malware is also capable of allowing cyber criminals to physically damage the equipment in electric grids.
